Reverse Osmosis

The perfect complement to our Refiner is our reverse osmosis drinking water system.  Our exclusive line is specifically designed to treat the kind of water we have in Arizona.  Our 375 E comes with 3 filters and can accommodate special filters for extra troubled water.  The specially formulated pre and post filters provide high quality water while the semi-permeable membrane rejects the major solids in our water.  One of our many unique features is our monitor.  It measures the quality, time, and usage to determine when filters need changed or when it is time to replace the membrane.  Every time you take out a glass, the monitor will let you know when the water is great or if it is time to take care of filters.

Salt-free Water Systems

You can pull up many different systems online claiming to treat your water via no salt.  They’ll address their products as salt-free water softeners, salt-free conditioners, no chemicals needed, and the list goes on and on.  There are two true tested and validated ways to soften water:  ionic exchange and membrane technology.  Ionic exchange is the standard, most cost effective way to soften water.  Ionic exchange is pretty simple:  Water goes through a resin bed, the water’s hardness minerals (calcium, magnesium, limestone) attach to the resin and out comes soft water.  Eventually the resin can no longer attract the minerals, so salt and water (brine) is pushed through and exchanges the hard ions for the salt ions and then it is flushed down the drain.  Very easy concept and meets all NSF and WQA standards and certifications.  Membrane technology, such as whole house reverse osmosis or Nanofiltration, can also soften water.  They both utilize membranes to draw out the impurities and leave a very high quality water unmatched by ionic exchange.  No salt is needed and you can literally have bottled quality water at every tap.  Again, this is true tested and validated technology.  If they system you are looking at sounds too good to be true, probably is.  Electric current, magnets, filters, and so forth cannot soften water or keep the hardness from staying on fixtures.

Nanofiltration

Nanofiltration is an ideal fit for severely troubled well water.  In situations where TDS (total dissolved solids) are above 1500 ppm, Nanofiltration can bring it down to well under a 100pm.  A water softener or conditioner will not provide the results they should.  In fact, in most cases they don’t provide the home owner any relief.  A filter isn’t the right application either.  To truly address the water in a situation as such, a selective membrane along with other custom materials, is the only way to go.  Time and time again, I have met with home owners that have spent thousands of dollars on fancy water softeners and filters that have left them with high maintenance costs and zero results.  Few companies even understand Nanofiltration and even less know how to work with it.  It is important to use a water treatment company that specializes in well water and isn’t going to sell you a unit that will provide little to no relief.  All About Water utilizes our engineers to create the perfect solution to your troubled well water issues.

Hot Water Done the Right Way!

Great link from MSN:

As more homeowners are discovering, you don’t need a super-hot climate and tens of thousands of dollars to go solar. In many cases, all it takes to offset two-thirds of your hot-water bill is a couple of panels resembling skylights, an 80-gallon water storage tank and some shade-free southern rooftop exposure. Costs range from about $2,000 to $10,000, sums that can be halved thanks to hefty new federal and state incentives. Just last week, California launched a cash-rebate program that will average $1,500 for residents to install solar water heaters at home.

When most people think of solar energy, they imagine using it to generate electricity, and that’s where a lot of buzz and venture-capital investment dollars currently go. But in the average home, harnessing the sun’s free energy for daily hot-water needs can be a more practical and affordable bet. Water heating is the third-largest energy expense in most households, after space heating and air conditioning, according to the Energy Department. This year, Hawaii began mandating solar water heaters in most new homes, and cold-weather locales such as New York and Colorado are among the state leaders in installations.

Hot water “is the most efficient way to use solar, short of passive solar where you’re using sunlight to warm up tile or stone,” says Monique Hanis of the Solar Energy Industries Association, a trade group that represents manufacturers and installers of solar products for electricity, water and other uses.

Rainwater Collection Systems

Living in the desert, water conservation is very important.  If you have ever had concerns with water shortages, harvesting rain water can provide the relief you are looking for.  This is a great way to provide a second source or backup to city water.  In Tucson, all new commercial constructions is required that at least 50% of their irrigation needs come from rainwater harvesting (RWH).  This also helps to lower the total demand from conventional sources.  This is a great way to be very green and responsible to our natural resources.

How do I get rid of bacteria in my well water?

I have received many calls lately on various well water concerns.  The most recent came from a client with coliform issues.  To disinfect water there a couple options.

The long time option that most people find reliable is chlorine.  This is an efficient way to get rid of bacteria, but because it poses issues with bathing and other concerns, it is highly recommended that it be removed.  So basically, you will have a chlorine water treatment system located at the well and then before the water enters the house, you’ll have the water go through a Central Water System. You receive the benefits of the bacteria, coliforms, e.coli, ect removed from the water without the side effects of the damaging chlorine.

There is also another option that is slowly gaining popularity: hydrogen peroxide.  It provides the effective disinfectant factor and according to WQP, it is also effective in treating nontoxic water contaminants such as iron and sulfur.  The downside to hydrogen peroxide is the handling factor.  Usage and storage need to be taken very seriously.
